This small but crucial project was planned and implemented to minimise downtime and disruption to the Dorset County Hospital's Pharmacy Department. The Aseptic Unit was formed to house state of the art equipment to assist in the delivery of all the pharmacy services needed by a busy district general hospital.
The employer's brief was clearly defined with specific requirements for minimising the downtime within the Pharmacy Unit. As a result Acheson carefully planned the works to include ensuring all mechanical and electrical designs were checked and approved and materials and equipment on lead times purchased and taken into stock prior to the works commencing on site.
The Aseptic Unit manufactures chemotherapy injections in a sterile environment. The sterile environment was created through several different measures and included the design of the unit with the air filtered to reduce airborne contaminants. Acheson used its experience in creating Class 3 BS 5295 Clean Room standards at the Pathology Laboratories at Lisieux Way, Taunton and Musgrove Hospital.
The project was successfully completed within the busy environment of a fully operational department of this district general hospital to the NHS Trust's satisfaction.
