New Contract - Dorset County Museum
Dorset County Museum currently faces a number of challenges, the most significant of which is that its current building stock is largely unfit for purpose. It does not provide the amount of floor space required and what it does have does not meet the environmental conditions required.
Tomorrows Museum for Dorset will transform the museum into a leading, contemporary cultural and heritage centre. The Victorian Hall and other existing spaces will be refurbished, and an impressive new in-fill building will double the museum’s floor space. A suite of new galleries will display collections of national & international importance for the first time.
There will be a specially created, publicly visible space for volunteers & researchers to work on the collection and visitors to see behind the scenes.
The project is funding in part by Heritage Lottery Fund, partly funded by the museum and partly funded by public donations. This prestigious project has been over 5 years in the planning and Acheson Construction are delighted to be selected to carry out the main building works following the success of the enabling works earlier this year.
