Delivered on behalf of repeat client Stonewater, this £6m affordable housing development involved the demolition of one dwelling and construction of 44 dwellings at North Street, Crewkerne. Associated external works include new drainage and services, vehicular and pedestrian access on to North Street and new carpark for Ashlands School.
As part of the Construction works, Acheson were required to develop a new Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) for Ashlands First School. Acheson needed to develop the new MUGA as the new site access road encroached on its existing location. It was to be built in an area behind the school before the staff and pupils returned from the summer break.
Works involved; building a retaining wall with gabion baskets, re-routing the existing drainage, breaking out the old play area, forming a new play surface and erect new fencing. It was essential that during the works, safe access was maintained and the School could enter their woodland play area at all times. Our site staff were in regular communication with the School prior, during and after the works.
Acheson were also in regular contact with the neighbouring SSSI regarding access requirements and its protection during the building project. Before any work started a Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) was prepared by Clarkson & Woods Ecologists to deal with the protection of “Ecology Assets“.
