Talbot Heath, Bournemouth’s leading independent school for girls aged 3-18, embarked on an exciting phase in their development with a £5 million growth & expansion plan. The vision was to provide a quality, sustainable, and flexible educational building for not only the school, but for the wider community.
The project involved the design and construction of a state of the art, three storey STEAM Hub that will support Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics. This fantastic new facility includes a flexible 600 seat auditorium, break out areas for independent working, gallery, exhibition spaces, and studios for; art, drama, textiles, graphic design and robotics.
Externally, materials have been chosen to keep the palette neutral, so the interior of the building becomes exhibited. The ground floor accommodates a refreshment area offering a view of the swimming pool and the large auditorium. The first floor is the drama department with access to back stage and balconies that double up as teaching spaces. The whole of the second floor is now the art department, and the existing swimming pool has now been covered with a new building and houses changing facilities and a new plant room. It will be used by both the school and local community clubs.
Acheson Construction are delighted to have been part of the school’s growth and expansion plan.
