Acheson have completed construction on an important project for Specialised Supported Housing at 4 Prince of Wales Road, Dorchester.
This new development on the former Age UK Rowan Cottage site offers 16 one-bedroom supported living homes.
The properties at what is now known as Elizabeth Court have been specifically tailored to resident needs using assistive technology allowing them to live independently from residential care homes.
Catering for people with a range of complex needs, they provide a safe and comfortable environment in the heart of Dorchester's market town. The site also includes Warden accommodation allowing for Carers to be on site overnight.
Situated behind Brewery Square with a design sympathetic to the rest of the neighbouring properties and views of the historic Eldridge Pope Brewery chimney, the works involved 12 flats to the front and 4 bungalows to the rear of the site.
With sustainability in mind, there are PV Panels on the roofs that feed into the electric supplies and an EV charging point to the front of Block A.
A bat loft, bat and swift boxes, solitary bee bricks and a hedgehog house for local wildlife are also part of this scheme.
All the ground floor flats are designed and kitted out for wheelchair users, with automatic doors, wet rooms and kitchens with rise & fall worktops.
The external areas are also designed for wheelchair access, with level access throughout.
Acheson are proud to have been asked to deliver this much needed local project.
